Catherine cossey

B. A., Grad. Dip. Ed.(Mus)

Catherine is a qualified teacher with over 30 years of experience in music education. Catherine is passionate about engaging people (young and old) with music, and equally passionate about these learners developing their own musical journey. Her past students have pursued careers as teachers, performers and music therapists. Catherine has also nurtured the gift of music in her own children, inspiring each to develop their own unique appreciation of music and to engage in music both professionally and for pleasure.

Catherine teaches contemporary and classical piano, keyboard, theory of music, musicianship and aural training. Catherine regularly enters students for external practical and written examinations with AMEB  and her students receive excellent results.

Catherine’s approach to teaching is holistic, positive and encouraging. She is experienced in teaching students of all ages and abilities, including students with special needs. Her lessons incorporate the skills and knowledge necessary to become technically competent, but just as importantly she also inspires her students to explore music from a wide variety of cultures and genres and to thus develop a genuine appreciation of the powerful influence of music in our lives.

Catherine is a strong advocate for the transforming power of music to bring people together and she has worked with acclaimed artists such as The Idea of North, The Swing Sisters, Harambee and the Victorian Police Showband to put together local community concerts that raise funds and create awareness about poverty and homelessness in our community.

Catherine teaches from her home studio in Croydon.
